Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Wins Second-Straight Liberty League Contest

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team won its second game in two days as the Bombers topped Union College, 3-1, on Saturday at Carp Wood Field.

Ithaca is now 5-8 overall with a 2-4 mark in the Liberty League while Union is 5-5-2 on the season and 0-4-1 in conference action.

The Bombers scored one goal in the first half and two in the second en route to the victory over the Dutchwomen.

In the 29th minute, senior Shannon McMillan scored her second goal of the season on a pass from Caroline Matos to give the Bombers the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Ithaca scored two close goals in the second half to take a 3-0 lead.

In the 62nd minute, junior Sarah Pirnie sent a cross to Shoshana Bedrosian in the box who slipped it past Union goalie Allison Sorkenn for the second goal of the game. The goal was also Bedrosian's team-leading sixth of the season.

The third and final goal of the game for the Bombers was less than three minutes after Bedrosian's goal, in the 65th minute.

Bedrosian sent a long ball up the field which led to an Alex Epifani breakaway. Epifani drilled a shot from the left corner of the box to add to Ithaca's lead.

Union quickly turned around to score a goal of its own, also in the 65th minute. The Dutchwomen's goal was scored by Amanda Ashmen on an assist from Linsey Giles.

The Bombers outshot Union 13-5 and also earned eight corner kicks compared to the Dutchwomen's one.

Ithaca forced Sorkenn to make three saves in the net for Union.

An Epifani shot was saved in the 37th minute of play, which was the only save in the first half.

Just two and a half minutes into the second half, McMillan tested Sorkenn again, who came up with the save. A Kate Kohler header in the 70th minute was also saved by Sorkenn.

Ithaca largely controlled the play which prevented Union from seeing too many quality opportunities inside the box.

Goalie Stacey DiGiorgio ended the day with one save, stopping a Paige Sherling header in the 57th minute of play.

The Bombers are back in action next Saturday, October 21, when they hit the road to take on RPI at 1 p.m.

Ithaca then rounds out the regular season with two home games against RIT on October 25 and Vassar on October 28.
