Men's Soccer Battles to a 1-1 Draw at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Skidmore on Friday evening.
 
The Bombers are now 5-5-2 overall with a 1-3-1 mark in the Liberty League while Skidmore is 5-1-5 on the season and 1-0-4 in conference play.
 
Ithaca scored first and went into halftime with a lead, but Skidmore scored 15 minutes into the second half which would eventually force two overtime periods.
 
Junior Nate Mansfield scored the lone goal for the Bombers in the 29th minute of play. Mansfield sent a header into the back of the net after receiving a pass from Zack Lichtman to give Ithaca the advantage.
 
Mansfield now has a team-leading five goals on the season.
 
Skidmore pulled even in the 61st minute when Augustine Okoye controlled a rebound and fired a low shot past Max Lichtenstein.
 
The Bombers had several opportunities in the opening half, but none were able to find the back of the net.
 
A Max Barish shot in the 10th minute sailed high before a Luke Karen shot in the 13th minute was saved by Skidmore goalie Sebastian Bosch.
 
After scoring on a header, Mansfield got a piece of another ball, but the shot was saved by Bosch.
 
Ithaca closed out the first half with two Drew Cohn headers. One was blocked by a Skidmore defender while the other one went wide of the goal.
 
Another Karen shot was saved by Bosch in the 51st minute, which was the sole shot the Bombers got off before Skidmore scored the tying goal.
 
Following Skidmore's score, a Nate Schoen shot was blocked by a defender in the 64th minute.
 
Several Ithaca shots were blocked as the second half wound down and the game ultimately led into overtime.
 
In the first overtime period, Barish had the lone shot with just 32 seconds left, but it was blocked. Lichtenstein stopped the only shot that the Thoroughbreds attempted, as well.
 
Each team registered one shot apiece in the second overtime, as well. Lichtman attempted a shot in the last minute but Bosch came up with the save.
 
Skidmore outshot the Bombers by nearly a 2-1 margin. The Thoroughbreds recorded 30 shots while Ithaca tallied 16. The Bombers, however, had eight corners while Skidmore had five.
 
Lichtenstein finished the day with eight saves while Bosch stopped five shots.
 
The Bombers are back in action tomorrow, at Union, at 2 p.m.
