TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team returned to the pool for its first competition of 2017 when it traveled to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Henry Kumpf Duals on Saturday afternoon. The IC men went 3-1 on the day, scoring decisive victories over Clarkson, Skidmore, and SUNY Cortland. The Bombers' lone defeat of the day came against the host Engineers, who narrowly edged Ithaca in the closest battle of the day.

The Bombers had five individuals and two relay teams post top times at today's meet. Highlighting the action was senior
Adam Zelehowsky, who took home first place in both the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events to earn 40 points for the squad. He posted a time of 1:45.31 in the 200, while he paced the field with a 47.13 in the 100. The senior also was a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that took first place.
Freshman
Andrew Mikhailichenko continued his strong debut season with three strong showings on the day. He took home first place with a time of 2:09.69 in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished second to Zelehowsky with a time of 1:50.47 in the 200 freestyle. Like Zelehowsky, he also was a part of the 400 medley relay squad that topped the field.
Freshman
Matt Quinney posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.42. The rookie added a third-place time of 2:14.92 in the 200 breast. He also was part of the 400 medley relay squad that placed third.
Sophomores
Jake Hewitt and
Aaron Levin were the Bombers other individual winners on the day. Levin swam a 22:00 to place first in the 50-yard freestyle, while Hewitt burned the field in 1:58.28 in the 200 butterfly. Hewitt also added a third-place finish with a 4:56.36 in the 500-yard backstroke.
Others posting Top-5 finishes on the afternoon were senior
Connor Schroyer, junior
Marshall Hendlin, as well as freshmen
Liam Maginnis and Pat Daly. Schroyer completed a fourth-place run in the 100 free (50.62). Hendlin marked a fourth-place mark with a 2:05.13 in the 200 back and a fifth-place finish in the 200 free (1:51.71). Daly went third in the lone distance race of the day, posting a time of 10:30.24 in the 1000 free. Maginnis added a fifth-place showing with a 5:16.38 in the 500 back.
Ithaca returns to action on Saturday, January 21, when it welcomes Alfred University for a dual meet at the Athletics & Events Center. Start time for the meet is slated for 1:00 p.m. The Bombers will host the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational at 10:00 a.m. the following morning.
