ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Ithaca College women's soccer team outlasted No. 24 Oneonta State on Wednesday as the Bombers held on for a 1-0 win in a tightly contested matchup at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field. With the win, Ithaca, which is ranked 23rd in the latest National Coaches Association of America poll, pushed its winning streak to three and is now 3-0-0 while the Red Dragons fall to 1-2-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first half of play, both teams looked to set the tempo over the final 45 minutes of action. Ithaca's offense, which had been outshot in the first half, 6-4, began to build momentum after a pair of shots deep in the Oneonta zone.Â
Jocelyn Ravesi continued to give opposing back lines trouble as the Fulton, native put the ball in the back of the net in the 56th minute when she received a pass from
Megan Nash and ran it up the sideline before unleashing a shot into the top corner of the cage to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. It was Ravesi's third goal in her last two games.
Ithaca didn't let up as the second half wore on, taking 11 shots, but the Bombers were unable to add to their advantage. Oneonta had its best opportunity in the final seconds of the game as its front line broke free and blasted a shot to the far side of the cage, but Ithaca net minder
Stacey DiGiorgio dove and turned the shot aside to preserve the shutout win.
DiGiorgio earned her third win of the season and moved to 3-0-0 after making six saves in 90 minutes of play.Â
Ithaca will continue its home stand at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it hosts Farmingdale State at Carp Wood Field.Â
