Women's Soccer Blanks New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Four different players scored a goal as the nationally-ranked Ithaca College women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 win over host New Paltz on Sunday in the Michelle Vargas-Robin Memorial Tournament at South Turf Field.

The win pushes No. 23 Ithaca to 2-0-0 on the season while the Hawks are still in search of their first win at 0-2-0.

The Bombers scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the ninth minute when Jocelyn Ravesi beat her defender inside the box before passing to Megan Nash who booted the ball into the back of the net to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead.

With an assist already under her belt, Ravesi gave the Bombers a 2-0 edge in the 25th minute as the Fulton native launched a shot from just outside the box for her first goal of the season.

The Bombers continued to move the ball as the half wore on with Taylor Baranowsky corralling a feed from Mackenzie Hinchliffe before beating the Hawks' keeper to stake the visitors to a 3-0 advantage.  The first half outburst didn't end there, however, as sophomore Shoshana Bedrosian was credited with her first-career goal after blasting a shot from the top of the box that found its mark to propel Ithaca to a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

Coming out of intermission, Ithaca continued to pressure the New Paltz defense.  In the 48th minute, Holly Niemiec lifted a crossing pass to Ravesi who tapped the ball in for her second goal of the afternoon making it 5-0 in the Bombers' favor.

Ithaca's defense stymied New Paltz the entire contest as the Hawks were only able to generate one shot in 90 minutes of action.

Stacey DiGiorgio got the start and the win in goal for Ithaca and did not allow a goal over 45 minutes of play.  She made one save before giving way to Karen Macke in the second half.

Ithaca will look to make it three wins in a row at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against Oneonta in what will be the Bombers' home-opener at Carp Wood Field.
