UTICA, N.Y. – Five different players tallied a goal as the Ithaca College women's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals in a shutout win over Utica College on Wednesday in an Empire 8 pairing from Charles Gaetano Stadium. With the win, Ithaca improved to 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference standings while the Pioneers slipped to 1-8 on the year and 1-2-0 against Empire 8 opponents.
Ithaca's seven goal outburst marked its highest total in nearly two years dating back to a 7-0 win over Marywood on October 1, 2014. The Bombers' offense produced a season-high 34 shots as well, which was the most in a game since taking 43 against the Pioneers last season.
Jocelyn Ravesi put the Bombers on the board in the 15th minute after
Holly Niemiec delivered a pass that Ravesi buried into the back of the net for a 1-0 Ithaca lead. Less than three minutes later in the 18th minute, the tandem connected again with Niemiec scoring her first goal on the season on a feed from Ravesi.
The Bombers would tack on another goal late in the first half in the 43rd minute as
Sarah Pirnie centered a pass to
Shoshana Bedrosian who beat Utica's keeper for a 3-0 Bombers' advantage.
Coming out of intermission, Niemiec and Ravesi struck again. In the 46th minute, Ravesi sent a strike towards the cage, which bounced back into play to Niemiec who blasted a shot into the corner to make it 4-0, Ithaca.
The Bombers offense continued to roll, scoring their fifth goal of the game just four minutes later when defender
Lindsey Parkins dribbled to the top of the box before dumping it off to Ravesi who did the rest, tallying her sixth goal of the year and second of the contest.
Mallory Chick got in on the action in the 79th minute after the senior midfielder snuck a shot just inside the right post to put the visiting Bombers up 6-0.Â
Reid Garner was credited with an assist on the play.
In the 88th minute, Garner added another two points to her name after delivering a strike from 35 yards out that went over the Pioneers' keeper's hands as the Bombers cruised to the seven-goal win.
Defensively, the Bombers stifled any opportunity that Utica had as the Pioneers finished with just three shots overall and only one corner kick.
Stacey DiGiorgio got the start and the win in goal moving her season record to 5-1-2 overall. The sophomore goalie made two saves in 54:34 minutes of play before being relieved by
Karen Macke in the second half. Macke did not face a shot.
The Bombers will look to build on Wednesday's momentum at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Rochester Institute of Technology at Carp Wood Field.
