ITHACA, N.Y. – Jocelyn Ravesi scored two goals as the Ithaca College women's soccer team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field. With the win, the Bombers improved to 6-1-2 on the season while the Tigers fell to 6-4-1.
After a scoreless first half of play, Ithaca came out of the break energized. The Bombers took five shots in the first three minutes of the second half before Ravesi found the back of the net in the 52nd minute with goalie
Stacey DiGiorgio picking up her first career assist on the play.
Ithaca continued to pound its offensive end of the field as time ticked away, but the Tigers intercepted a pass at the midfield line in the 76th minute and delivered a strike into the corner of the net to tie the contest at one goal apiece.
With the game knotted and 14 minutes still showing on the clock, the Bombers turned up the pressure on R.I.T.'s backline. Ithaca took eight shots and had three corners in a span of 11 minutes before Ravesi broke the tie with her eighth goal of the season after corralling a rebound and burying the ball into an open net to lift Ithaca to a 2-1 non-conference win.Â
Taylor Baranowsky and
Jess Demczar were each credited with an assist on the play.
DiGiorgio earned the win in net for Ithaca and moved her season mark to 6-1-2 after making one save in 90 minutes of action.
As a team, the Bombers took 25 shots, 21 of which came in the second half. R.I.T. had eight shots in all. Ithaca also had 11 corner kick opportunities which marked its highest total since taking 12 against Keuka College to open the 2015 season.
The Bombers will return to conference play at 12 p.m. on Saturday when they host Alfred University at Carp Wood Field. A special halftime presentation will be made to the 1990-1991 women's soccer national championship teams, which will be inducted into the College's Hall of Fame the evening before.
