Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Welcomes Back Alumni; Cruises to 5-0 Win Over Alfred

ITHACA, N.Y. – Five different players scored a goal as the Ithaca College women's soccer team welcomed back several alumni and won its third consecutive game on Saturday after overwhelming Alfred University, 5-0, in an Empire 8 matchup on Carp Wood Field.  With the victory, Ithaca improved to 7-1-2 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-1 while the Saxons fell to 7-5 on the season and 1-2 in the conference standings.

Ithaca, which took a season-high 37 shots in the win, controlled the pace of play from the get-go and pounded Alfred's defensive corps with shot after shot.  Ithaca broke through in the 34th minute when Holly Niemiec secured a loose ball in front of the Saxons' net and delivered a strike into the back of the net to put Ithaca up 1-0.

The Bombers continued to apply the pressure as the half wore on and doubled their lead in the 44th minute when Jess Demczar drilled a free kick from 25 yards out into the corner of the goal to give the home team a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

During the break, Ithaca honored Maureen Nolan-Decillis and members of the 1990-1991 national championship women's soccer teams as the group had been inducted into the College's Athletics Hall of Fame the night before.

Coming out of halftime, it didn't take long for Ithaca to put the Saxons in its rearview mirror as Taylor Baranowsky headed home a corner kick feed from Jocelyn Ravesi to make it 3-0 in the Bombers' favor.

Ithaca's offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the 54th minute when Emma Oliver scored her first goal of the season after deflecting a pass from Baranowsky into the goal to put her team up by four.  The scoring continued in the 87th minute as Mackenzie Hinchliffe launched a rocket from nearly 40 yards out to pad Ithaca's lead at 5-0.  Megan Amaral earned an assist on the play.

Stacey DiGiorgio earned her seventh win (7-1-2) in net for the Bombers and made two saves in nearly 61 minutes of action before being relieved.  Karen Macke and Sara Jakobsze combined to play the final 29 minutes of action.  Neither faced a shot.

Megan Nash led all players with seven shots while Baranowsky took six including four on goal.  Demczar had five shots and Oliver and Niemiec each had four in the win.

Ithaca will look to make it four wins in a row at 6 p.m. on Monday when it travels to Buffalo to face Houghton.
