HOUGHTON, N.Y. – For the second consecutive game, the Ithaca College women's soccer team scored five goals in a shutout win as the Bombers blanked Houghton on its home field, 5-0, Monday evening on Burke Field. Ithaca, which has now won its last four contests, improved to 8-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Empire 8. Houghton, which has now lost its last four games, fell to 5-5-2 overall and 1-3-0 against conference opponents.
Emma Oliver notched her second goal of the season and staked Ithaca to a 1-0 lead in just the seventh minute of play as the Bombers took charge in the early going. 20 minutes later,
Holly Niemiec's pass found
Taylor Baranowsky as the senior midfielder beat Houghton's keeper to make it a two-goal game in Ithaca's favor.
Coming out of intermission, Ithaca wasted no time getting back into its groove offensively as the Bombers put the game out of reach with three goals in the half's first 14 minutes. Ithaca's third goal came in the 47th minute when
Megan Nash was on the receiving end of a pass from
Jocelyn Ravesi to make it 3-0. Less than four minutes later, the Bombers struck again as Niemiec found Oliver who weaved her way through Houghton's defense before unleashing a strike into the back of the net for her second goal of the game to give the visitors a 4-0 advantage. The offensive outburst continued in the 54th minute with Ravesi scoring her ninth goal of the season with Oliver being credited with an assist on the play.
Stacey DiGiorgio started in goal for the Bombers and nailed down her eighth win of the season after making one save in 70:45 before being relieved by
Karen Macke.
As a team, Ithaca outshot the Highlanders, 18-5, while both teams took one corner kick in 90 minutes of play.
Ithaca will return to the pitch at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Nazareth College in an Empire 8 pairing at Carp Wood Field. Prior to kick-off, the Bombers will celebrate senior day.
