ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Bombers fell to Nazareth College, 1-0, in an Empire 8 matchup at Carp Wood Field. With the loss, Ithaca, which had not lost in conference this season, fell to 8-2-2 and 3-1-1, respectively. Nazareth improved to 10-2-2 overall and 5-1-0 against Empire 8 opponents with the win.
Prior to the game, Ithaca honored the 10 members of its senior class including
Taylor Baranowsky,
Mallory Chick,
Aimee Chimera,
Jess Demczar,
Cate Douglass,
Karen Macke,
Megan Nash,
Holly Niemiec,
Lindsey Parkins and
Jocelyn Ravesi.
After a scoreless first half of play, the Bombers came out of the break on a mission with nine shots over the first 15 minutes of the second half. Ithaca's best chance to crack the tie came in the 56th minute when Niemiec corralled a loose ball in front of the net and unleashed a strike that Nazareth's goalie blocked back into play. Nash collected the rebound and delivered a strike, but once again the Golden Flyers' keeper was in the right place to make the save to hold the Bombers at bay.
The game went back-and-forth until the 74th minute as Nazareth scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal when a crossing pass to the far post found its mark to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
With time running out, Ithaca would take three more shots over the final 15 minutes including one on goal, but the Golden Flyers held Ithaca's high-powered offense scoreless on the day.
Stacey DiGiorgio started in goal and took the loss to move to 8-2-2 on the season. The sophomore keeper made four saves overall.
As a team, the Bombers held a 21-10 advantage in shots led by six shots each from Demczar and Nash.Â
Emma Oliver had five shots for Ithaca's frontline while Niemiec had three.
Ithaca will close out the home portion of the 2016 season at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Elmira in another conference contest at Carp Wood Field. From there, the Bombers will finish the regular season with three straight road games.
