ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit late in the second half but settled for a 2-2 draw against Hartwick College in an Empire 8 matchup from Carp Wood Field. With the tie, Ithaca moved to 4-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference standings while the Hawks closed out the day at 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 against Empire 8 opponents.
After a scoreless first half of play, the Hawks would strike first in the 58th minute after heading in their first corner kick opportunity of the game. Just four minutes later, Hartwick would double its lead after lofting a ball just over the head of Ithaca's keeper,
Stacey DiGiorgio, to take a 2-0 lead.
Facing an uphill climb and a two-goal hole with 30 minutes left in regulation, the Bombers would strike back in the 68th minute as
Shoshana Bedrosian blasted a shot that bounced off Hartwick's keeper right back to her as she unleashed a strike into the back of the net to make it a 2-1 contest.
As had been the case for Hartwick earlier in the half, Ithaca didn't waste much time in between goals. In the 71st minute,
Jess Demczar directed a corner kick in front of the net as
Taylor Baranowsky headed in her first goal of the season to tie the game at two goals apiece.
Both teams had a chance to win it in regulation but were unable to notch the difference-maker. Hartwick broke free in front of Ithaca's goal and delivered a strike, but senior back
Lindsey Parkins slide and blocked the ball aside to keep the Bombers' hopes alive. Ithaca's opportunity came in the 85th minute on another corner kick as Baranowsky's header bounced off the cross bar before being cleared away.
Heading into the first overtime period, Ithaca put two shots on net, but neither found their mark. In the second overtime, Ithaca had another chance to win it when Baranowsky sent a pass into the box to
Jocelyn Ravesi. Ravesi dodged her way past the Hartwick defense and fired a shot, but Hartwick's backline was able to get to the ball before it crossed the goal line. The Bombers took two corner kicks but were unable to find the back of the net as time expired.
DiGiorgio was credited with a tie and moved her season record to 4-1-2 overall after making five saves in 110 minutes.Â
As a team, the Bombers outshot the Hawks, 29-11 and was awarded eight corners. Â
The Bombers will take on Utica College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in an Empire 8 match from Utica.
