ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team found itself tied with host Nazareth College with 10:01 remaining in the opening half of Saturday's Empire 8 clash in Rochester, N.Y.
Then senior
Riley Marion scored her first goal of the contest to kick-start an 8-0 run, and the Bombers defense clamped down and held the Golden Flyers scoreless for a stretch of 33 minutes spanning both halves as Ithaca (6-3, 3-0 Empire 8) earned a 12-8 win.
Marion finished with two goals, and junior
Morgan Racicot added three goals with two assists to power the comeback effort. Junior
Morgan Cadwell scored three goals, and freshman
Allison Panara added two goals with an assist as the Bombers remained perfect in conference play.
Cadwell won five draw controls, Racicot collected five groundballs and caused two turnovers, sophomore
Molly Long scooped up four groundballs, and junior
Gaby Berne caused three turnovers in the win.
Senior
Mackenzie Robinson scored a goal and won three draw controls, and senior
Ally Lates added a goal to power the Bombers.
Junior
Emily Ross started and made three saves for the win, while sophomore
Kimberly Presuto came on in the second half and made a season-most 10 saves, the second-highest save total of her career.
Cadwell scored just 32 seconds in for an early 1-0 lead, and Racicot extended the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal 2:54 into the contest.
Nazareth (6-4, 1-1) scored three of the next four goals to pull even at three before Panara put IC back on top 4-3 with 11:12 remaining in the opening stanza.
Haley DeVona's unassisted goal knotted the score at four before the Bombers went on their decisive 8-0 run. Marion and Racicot scored twice during the run, while Lates, Robinson, Cadwell and Panara added tallies to lift IC.
Marion's first goal, off a feed from Racicot, put Ithaca up 5-4 with 7:05 remaining in the first, and that was the lead Ithaca took into halftime.
Racicot's free-position goal 2:55 into the second gave IC a 6-4 lead, and Panara found Lates for a 7-4 edge eight minutes into the second half.
Marion's second goal made it a four-goal cushion for Ithaca, and Robinson and Racicot scored 50 seconds apart for a 10-4 lead with 13:43 remaining.
Cadwell and Panara later added free-position shot goals in a span of 2:07, and the Bombers held on for the win.
