ITHACA, N.Y.  —The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal, second-half deficit and pulled even in Thursday night's non-conference clash with SUNY Geneseo. But the Bombers suffered their first home loss of 2016, falling 11-9 at Higgins Stadium.
For the second consecutive game, junior
Morgan Cadwell equaled her career-highs for points (five) and goals (four), while seniors
Riley Marion and
Ally Lates added two goals apiece for Ithaca (5-3), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Geneseo (5-3) led 9-5 on Hannah Millich's goal with 16:59, but the Bombers chipped away at the lead and scored four unanswered goals in a span of 7:42 to pull even.
Cadwell fed Marion to start the scoring run and trim the deficit to 9-6 with 15:58 remaining. Freshman
Allison Panara then connected with junior
Gaby Berne 47 seconds later to make it 9-7 Geneseo.
Junior
Morgan Racicot hit Cadwell in stride 57 seconds later, and Cadwell buried her shot for a person-up goal to pull IC within 9-8 with 14:14 remaining.
Geneseo maintained a one-goal lead until Marion converted a free-position goal with 8:16 to play to knot the score at 9. But the Knights scored twice in the final 5:35 to earn the win.
Cadwell and Racicot each collected three groundballs, while Panara and sophomore
Maggie Wise each won two draw controls in the loss.
Five of Ithaca's goals came off of free-position shots, with Cadwell and Lates scoring twice on free-position shots, and Marion adding a free-position goal.
Sophomore
Kimberly Presuto played the final 46 minutes and made a season-high nine saves for Ithaca. It was the second-most saves of her career.
Geneseo scored a pair of goals in a span of 3:15 early on, and held Ithaca scoreless for the first 18 minutes. The Knights tacked on two more goals halfway through the opening stanza and led 4-0 on a goal from Lauren Corbett with 15:18 to play in the first.
Cadwell's first of two first-half free-position goals got the Bombers on the scoreboard with 12 minutes to play in the half, then 3:43 later Cadwell sliced the deficit in half with another free-position tally.
Neither team scored again until the Knights found the back of the net twice in a span of 25 seconds late in the half for a 6-2 lead.
But IC answered with a pair of goals to close out the half. Lates converted a free-position shot with 1:18 remaining, and it appeared Ithaca would head to halftime down 6-3, until the Bombers scored as time expired.
Off a feed from freshman
Danika Wagener, Cadwell scored her third goal of the half to pull the Bombers within two goals heading to halftime.
Geneseo came out of the break and went on a 3-1 run to lead 9-5 before Ithaca rallied to tie the game on Marion's goal, but it wasn't enough to knock off the Knights.
The Bombers travel to Empire 8 foe Nazareth College for a 12 p.m. clash Saturday.Â
