GENEVA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Matt Flood matched his career-high with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field on Saturday afternoon but the Ithaca College men's basketball team fell short and lost to Hobart, 95-66, at Bristol Gym. The Bombers closed out the fall semester with a 4-5 record while the Statesmen enter the holiday break with a 5-2 overall mark.
Flood knocked down a game-high four from behind the 3-point arc to go along with two rebounds.
Joey Flanagan scored 11 points while
Marc Chasin finished with seven points, five boards and an assist.
Carroll Rich added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
Hobart Raced out to a 10-point lead, 17-7, after connecting on three from distance over the game's first eight minutes of play. Flanagan would cut the deficit to seven points with a 3-pointer of his own, but a 9-0 run over the next 2:08 staked the Statesmen to a 16-point advantage, 28-12.
The home team would build its largest lead of the half with back-to-back layups to make it 42-24, but the Bombers closed out the half with three straight makes from downtown to cut Hobart's lead to 11, 44-33, as the first half came to an end.
Ithaca started the second half with an old-fashioned 3-point play by Flood to make it an eight-point game, but Hobart pulled away after a 17-1 run made it 61-37 with 13:45 remaining in the game. The Bombers swapped baskets with Hobart over the next several minutes but were unable to chip away as the Statesmen earned the non-conference win.
Ithaca shot just 21-for-59 (.356) from the floor but connected on 15-of-19 opportunities from the free throw line.
The Bombers are off until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3 when they open up Empire 8 play against Alfred University in Ben Light Gymnasium.
