Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Flanagan Erupts for 39 as Bombers Down Stevens

ITHACA, N.Y. – Joey Flanagan scored a career-high 39 points as the Ithaca College men's basketball team made its return from semester break in a big way, scoring a season-high 120 points in 120-110 conference win over the visiting Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks on Sunday in Ben Light Gymnasium.  With the win, Ithaca stretches its winning streak to three games and moves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play.  Stevens falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference standings.

Trailing by two points just over three minutes into the contest, 8-6, the Bombers would take the lead when Marc Chasin penetrated and dished to Flanagan who buried the corner 3-pointer to make it 9-8.  The lead, however, would be Ithaca's last in the opening half as the Ducks would counter with a 13-2 run that stretched over the next four minutes to hold a 10-point advantage, 21-11.

Despite the Ducks shooting .636 from downtown over the opening 20 minutes of play, Ithaca would weather the storm eventually taking the lead in the second half after scoring 12 unanswered points to build a 58-55 lead.

The Ducks would knock down a free throw to come to within two points at 17:29, but it was all Ithaca from there as the Bombers would build their largest lead of the game, 91-76 after Jake Mitchell scored one of his career-high 10 field goals to put the home team up 15 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game.

Stevens would cut the lead to six points late in the half, but another run by Ithaca, this time a 9-2 flurry, would put the Bombers back up by double-digits.

Ithaca's offense was hot from the get-go, shooting 47-of-84 from the field (.560) including 15 from beyond the arc.  The Bombers' 120-point outburst was their most since February 15, 2015 when they matched the feat in a double-overtime loss against Stevens.

Flanagan knocked down 17 field goals on only 21 attempts in the win and also accounted for four steals, two assists and one rebound.  Mitchell also tallied a career-high as the freshman finished with 23 points and four boards.  Chasin added 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists while senior Sam Bevan contributed nine points, 11 helpers and six rebounds.  Carroll Rich and Matt Flood each finished with 12 points.

The Bombers will host Nazareth College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in an Empire 8 matchup from Ben Light Gymnasium.
