ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team couldn't recover from an early goal as the Bombers fell to the visiting Hobart College Statesmen on Tuesday, 3-0, at a rain soaked Carp Wood Field.
With the loss, Ithaca moves to 2-5-1 overall while Hobart ends the day at 6-1-1 overall.
Hobart got on the board in just the second minute after the Statesmen were able to capitalize on a loose ball in the box to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bombers were unable to generate much momentum in the opening half, taking just three shots while junior goalie
Zach Jacobsen kept Ithaca close, turning away six shots to keep it a one-goal game heading into halftime.
The game would remain 1-0 until the 69th minute when Hobart scored on a crossing pass to double its lead before the Statesmen would strike again just two minutes later with a shot from deep inside Ithaca territory found its mark to make it a three goal affair.
Sam Factor led the way for Ithaca with two shots while
Cobi Byrne and
Joseph Dobbins each took one.
Jacobsen was saddled with the loss and moved to 2-5-1 on the season despite making a career-high nine saves in 90 minutes.
Ithaca will return to conference play at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Hoboken, N.J. to take on the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks.
