ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play on Saturday as the Bombers handed St. John Fisher College a 2-1 defeat at Carp Wood Field.
With the win, Ithaca now boasts a 2-0 record against Empire 8 competition and a 2-4-1 overall mark while the Cardinals fall to 0-2-0 in the conference standings and 0-9-0 overall.
The Bombers took charge in the opening half scoring just 17 minutes into the contest when
Joseph Dobbins booted a lofting ball from the left corner that found the foot of
Jordan Filipowich who buried his first goal of the season to put Ithaca up 1-0.
Seven minutes later, the Bombers would strike again.
Sean Forward made a move past the Fisher defense and crossed the ball right to left to a waiting
Brandon Thompson who kicked the ball just past the outstretched hands of the Cardinals' goalie to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team heading into intermission.
The Cardinals would make it a one-goal game in the 53rd minute after an in-between ball drew Bombers' goal minder
Zach Jacobsen too far out of the box, allowing Fisher to score on an open net, but that was as close as they visitors would get as Ithaca's defense closed the door on the comeback attempt.
Jacobsen earned his second win of the season after making a pair of saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Bombers will continue their brief home stand at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they host a non-conference matchup against the Hobart Statesmen at Carp Wood Field.
