ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team fell to Cortland, 3-2, on Saturday in the consolation game of the Upstate Collegiate Cup at Fauver Stadium hosted by the University of Rochester. The loss marks the first time since the 2006 season that the Bombers suffered two losses in a span of three games.
Jocelyn Ravesi staked Ithaca (3-3) to an early 1-0 lead in the 29th minute after gathering a pass from
Megan Nash that found the back of the net.
The lead would be short lived, however, as Cortland (4-3) scored two goals in a span of two minutes including a penalty kick to lift the Red Dragons to a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Cortland's lead would grow in the 53rd minute after a Bombers' foul in the box allowed the Red Dragons to convert on their second penalty kick of the contest to make it 3-1.
Kelsey King would bring Ithaca to within striking distance in the 66th minute after rebounding a missed penalty shot and beating the Red Dragons' goalie to make it 3-2.
The Bombers tried to force the action in ther game's closing minutes, taking five shots, but none found the mark as Cortland held on for the one-goal win.
Beth Coppolecchia took the loss for Ithaca and moved her season record to 3-3. The senior keeper made five saves overall in 90 minutes.
The Bombers will look to get back to their winning ways at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when they open Empire 8 play at Alfred.
