Men's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season

Ouckama Notche First Career Win as Coach

ITHACA, N.Y. – Four different players recorded a goal as the Ithaca College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals and picked up its first win of the season after downing Empire 8 foe Utica College, 4-0, on Saturday at Carp Wood Field.  The win marked the first career coaching victory for first-year head coach Patrick Ouckama '09.

"The guys deserved it today," said Ouckama.  "They put together a good performance from the first whistle and got the result they deserved."

The Bombers, who now hold a 1-3-1 overall mark and a 1-0-0 record in conference play, wasted no time putting Utica (3-5-0, 0-1-0) on the defensive as Sean Forward scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the third minute of play after booting home his own rebound.

The game would remain 1-0 until the 53rd minute of play when Jose Contreras sent one into the far corner of the box that Brandon Thompson deposited into the back of the net to put the Bombers up 2-0.

Ithaca would extend its advantage to three goals in the 67th minute when Sam Boylan was afforded a penalty shot after being taken down inside the box.

After swapping field position for the next several minutes, Boylan beat his man downfield and juked past several Pioneer defenders before dumping the ball off to Matt Bukowski who scored his first career goal to put Ithaca up 4-0.

Utica, which had been forced to play a man down for much of the contest due to an earlier red card, was never able to generate any momentum as the Bombers cruised to their first conference win of the year.

Zach Jacobsen earned his first win and shutout in a Bombers' uniform after turning aside three shots in 90 minutes.

Ithaca returns to the pitch at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when take on host Scranton in a non-conference showdown.
