ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 Empire 8 Conference decision to St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. With the loss, Ithaca is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8, while Fisher improves to 4-2 and 2-0 in conference.
The only goal of the first half came off a corner for St. John Fisher with 21 seconds remaining on the clock. Fisher's initial shot was saved by junior
Katie Lass, but the rebound was put back in. It was the Cardinals' fourth corner over the final two minutes of the half.
Ithaca took three shots in the opening 35 minutes, with one on goal from junior
Cassie Schuttrumpf. Fisher recorded nine shots in the half and seven were on target.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Ithaca was awarded two corners but was unable to produce a shot on goal. The Bombers controlled play over the final 35 minutes of regulation, but could never find an equalizer.
Ithaca took 10 shots in the second half, with five on goal, and earned 10 corners. Fisher was shutout in shots during the second half and only took one corner.
Lass was dealt her second loss of the season in goal for Ithaca. She made six saves on the afternoon.
The Bombers are back at Higgins Stadium on Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. against Hartwick College for another Empire 8 contest.Â
