ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team pushed Marywood University to the edge on Saturday as two extra overtime periods would be needed to determine an outcome before both teams settled for a 1-1 tie at Carp Wood Field.
Scott Halpern gave the Bombers (0-3-1) their first lead of the season after scoring his first goal of the 2015 campaign in the ninth minute after finding the back of the net on a feed from
Brandon Thompson.
The lead would last until the 70th minute when Marymount (1-1-2) would notch the game-tying goal on a penalty kick to knot things up at one goal apiece.
After 90 minutes of play, both teams braced for overtime, however, neither would be able to score the go-ahead goal so a second overtime period would be needed.
Ithaca came out the aggressor in the game's final 10 minutes as Thompson fired two shots, but neither found its mark as the Bombers and Pacers remained deadlocked at the end of the afternoon.
As a team, the Bombers managed a season-high 18 shots including eight shots on goal.
Zach Jacobsen played all 110 minutes in net for the Bombers and registered six saves including three in extra time.
Thompson and
Sean Forward took a team-high three shots in the contest while
Joseph Dobbins,
Jose Contreras and Halpern each took two shots.
Ithaca will look to claim its first win of the season at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they pen conference play against Utica College at Carp Wood Field.
