ALFRED, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team went 1-1 on day one of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. Ithaca started off the day with a 4-3 walk-off victory in eight innings over Stevens at Alfred University. Ithaca then fell 6-2 to St. John Fisher at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bombers will play tomorrow in the semi-final elimination game against Alfred at 11 a.m.
Game One: Ithaca - 4, Stevens - 3 (8 Innings)With two outs in the bottom of the eighth and two runners on, freshman
Allie Colleran won the game for Ithaca on a single to score junior
Jenna Tambasco from second base. Tambasco found her way on earlier in the inning on a base hit, and then moved into scoring position on a stolen base.
Colleran went 3-for-5 in the game to lead the Bombers to 12 hits in the contest.
The Bombers trailed early in the game, 3-0, after the top of the second, but battled back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and knotted things up with a run in the third.
Freshman
Emily Bloom and senior
Nicole Ciricillo scored Ithaca's runs in the second inning on a wild pitch and throwing error. Junior
Casey Gavin scored the Bombers' third run on an RBI single from Bloom.
Bloom tallied two hits, including a double, in three trips to the plate, while Ciricillo and Gavin each had one base hit.
Junior
Laura Quicker earned her 12th victory in the circle for Ithaca and tossed her 15th complete game. After a tough second inning that resulted in three runs on four hits, Quicker settled down and allowed just three hits for the rest of the game. She struck out four batters and walked three.
Game Two: Ithaca 2, St. John Fisher 6Junior pitcher
Allison Macari started game two and was credited with the loss after giving up three earned runs on five hits. Macari recorded a strike out and a walk in 1.0 innings pitched. She is now 9-6 on the season. Quicker pitched 5.0 innings for the Bombers, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Seniors
Kelly Robichaud and Ciricillo paced the Bombers with two hits on three at-bats against the Cardinals. Ciricillo led Ithaca with two singles, including an RBI. Robichaud had a single and a double on the day.
St. John Fisher scored five straight runs to open up the second contest. The Cardinals went up 3-0 after two innings of play and extended their lead 5-0 in the third inning.
The Bombers got on the board in the fourth inning after freshman
Emily Bloom scored on a fielding error and a wild pitch, making the score 5-1.
Neither team would score in the fourth or fifth inning.
A double from Robichaud sparked Ithaca's offense in the top of the sixth. Sophomore
Gabbie Litz replaced Robichaud at second base as a pinch runner. Ciricillo singled with two outs to bring Litz across the plate for Ithaca. The Bombers trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning.
The Cardinals scored once more in the bottom of the sixth on a fielding error to extend the lead, 6-2.
Ithaca was retired in order in the top of the seventh, to give the Cardinals the 6-2 win.
The Bombers will take on Alfred at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The winner of tomorrow's game will move on to the final game of the conference tournament to face St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
