Box Score 2 ALFRED, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team dropped both games of a road doubleheader on Sunday. The Bombers fell to Alfred by a score of 11-3 in game one, before dropping game two, 10-5. Ithaca's record moves to 8-10 overall, including a mark of 4-2 in the Empire 8.
Game One: Alfred – 11, Ithaca – 3Junior
Laura Quicker was credited with the loss in game one. She allowed just two earned runs on seven Saxon hits in 3.2 innings of work. Classmate
Allison Macari also saw time in the circle, pitching 0.2 innings in relief. She allowed three earned runs on three hits, while also recording two strikeouts.
Junior
Kelly Robichaud picked up a double in a 1-for-2 performance at the plate. She also recorded a run scored and a RBI. Freshman
Emily Bloom went 1-for-2, as she recorded a single and a RBI.
After two scoreless frames, Alfred got on the board first in the bottom of the third. The Saxons scored two runs on two hits, giving them the 2-0 lead.
The Bombers responded immediately, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. With no outs and runners on second and third, Bloom singled to advance both Bombers and score Ithaca's first run. Robichaud followed with a double, bringing home the second run of the frame. A wild pitch resulted in the third run of the inning, giving Ithaca the 3-2 lead.
The Saxons turned on the offense from that point forward, starting with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth. Alfred added three more runs in the fifth, giving the Saxons an 11-3 victory on the NCAA eight-run rule.
Game Two: Alfred – 10, Ithaca – 5Quicker was once again credited with the loss in game two of the doubleheader, moving her record to 4-6 in the circle. Quicker allowed three earned runs on seven hits, while also recording one strikeout. Macari saw action once again in a relief role, as she held the Saxons scoreless in 3.0 innings of play. Freshman
Payton Cutting also saw brief time in the circle.
Junior
Erin McQuillan was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Bloom was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Robichaud and junior
Casey Gavin each went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Robichaud was also credited with a RBI.
Alfred's momentum carried into the second tilt, as the Saxons scored nine-straight runs to open the contest. A four-run first frame was followed by a five-run third, putting the Saxons up by a score of 9-0.
An RBI single from Robichaud in the top of the fourth scored the first Ithaca run of the game, before Alfred added an insurance score in the bottom of the frame to go up, 10-1.
The Bombers were able to add four more runs in the remainder of the contest, including a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and fifth frame. Despite Ithaca's rally, the Bombers were unable to score again in the contest, giving Alfred the 10-5 win and the conference sweep.
The Bombers return to play on Tuesday, April 14 with a road doubleheader against Utica. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
