Men's Basketball has Winning Streak Stopped by St. Lawrence

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Bombers fell to St. Lawrence University, 88-78, in Ben Light Gymnasium.  With the loss, Ithaca slips to 4-2 overall while the Saints climb to 3-4.

The Bombers came out aggressive to start the first half, scoring five points in the first 30 seconds of play before the Saints answered with three baskets in the paint to hold a one-point edge, 6-5, with three minutes gone by.

Carroll Rich gave the home team a four-point advantage, 13-9, at the 15:42 mark of the opening stanza, but from there it was all St. Lawrence as the visitors would utilize a 10-1 run that ate up nearly three minutes of play to hold a 35-26 lead.

Back-to-back baskets by senior Sam Bevan including a deep 3-pointer from the top of the key would cut the deficit to four points at 4:15.  The Saints would eventually push their lead to 11 points, 44-33, on the strength of a 9-2 spurt but Ithaca would keep the deficit to single digits heading into halftime after a pair of free throws from Joey Flanagan followed by a Bevan lay-up made it 44-37.

Coming out of the break, Ithaca would battle back, eventually tying the score at 57-57 thanks to a 10-4 run capped by a 3-point field goal from Flanagan.  The tie would be short-lived, however, as the Saints poured in 14 unanswered points and never looked back, earning an 88-78 win.

Five players reached double figures in scoring for Ithaca led by Bevan's 20 points.  The senior guard also contributed four assists, two rebounds and a pair of steals.  Flanagan added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Rich finished with 13 points.  Freshman Peter Ezema and Marc Chasin each tallied 12 points.

The Bombers next bout is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on Wells College in Aurora.
