ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team used a 21-point third quarter to turn a 26-23 halftime lead over SUNY Cortland in to a 62-48 victory on Tuesday night in Ben Light Gymnasium. Ithaca has now won three consecutive games and is 3-2 on the season, while Cortland falls to 2-2.
The Bombers shot 42.1-percent from the field (24-for-57), 28.6-percent from three-point range (8-for-26) and went 6-for-8 at the free throw line. Cortland was held to 34.5-percent overall and 10.5-percent from distance, connecting on just 2-of-19 attempts. The Red Dragons also shot 53.3-percent at the line and only went 6-for-13 in the second half (46.2%). The Bombers also held a plus-15 advantage in rebounds, 44 to 29, including 12 offensive rebounds.
Ithaca held a two-point edge after the first quarter, 15-13, and then outscored Cortland by one, 11-10, in the second period. Ithaca then opened the contest by outscoring the Red Dragons, 21-8, in the third quarter. Cortland held a 17-15 edge in the fourth quarter, but trailed by as many as 20 points just over a minute into the stanza.
Junior
Ali Ricchiuti notched her second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Ricchiuti went 6-for-13 overall and made 3-of-7 attempts from long range.
Classmate
Erin Ferguson converted on 7-of-10 shots to also reach 15 points in the game with five rebounds. Ferguson has scored at least 10 points in all five games so far this season.
Sophomore
Allison Spaschak contributed nine points, all from three-point range, in 16 minutes of action, while fellow sophomore
Jordan Beers added seven points and a game-high six assists.
Senior
Keri Steele chipped in seven rebounds and six points – four came at the free throw line. Sophomore
Erin Woop grabbed five rebounds with three assists and two points, and freshman
Annie Giannone netted five points in seven minutes of action. Sophomore
Julie Yacovoni added three rebounds and two points for the Bombers.
Ithaca is back in Ben Light on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. for another non-conference matchup against St. Lawrence. The Bombers will then head to William Smith on the 11th for a 7 p.m. tip and then come back home for a 4 p.m. contest with Rochester on the 12th to complete the 2015 portion on the season.
