ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team closed out its regular season with a split on the final day of the Oneonta Dig Pink Invitational on Saturday. Ithaca began the day with a sweep of Oneonta, but fell in straight sets to Ramapo in the finale to end its regular season with a 28-4 record.
MATCH ONE: Ithaca 3, Oneonta (25-22, 25-19, 25-19)The Bombers hit .196 in the match, but held Oneonta on a .090 clip. Ithaca also scored on six service aces and four total blocks (two solo, four assists).
Freshman
Katie Evans led the way offensively with 12 kills on 16 swings with three digs, while sophomore
Caroline Gerulskis and freshman
Amanda Cerruti each tallied seven kills. Gerulskis hit. 357 in the match, while Cerruti put kills down at a .375 rate with three block assists and one solo.
Sophomore
Kayla Gromen dished out 36 assists with five digs and two aces. Freshman
Kyle Dandrea chipped in six kills with 10 dig, and sophomore
Joelle Goldstein added five kills and seven digs. Freshman
Hailey Adler contributed four digs and two kills.
Defensively, senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern registered 14 digs to lead the Bombers and sophomore
Marlee Wierda was close behind with 12 digs.
MATCH TWO: Ramapo 3, Ithaca 0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-18)Ithaca had its winning streak snapped by Ramapo in straight sets, but the Bombers pushed the first two sets to extra points. In the second set, Ithaca led, 24-21, with side-out, but gave the ball back to Ramapo on a service error, which resulted in the Roadrunners putting together a 6-1 run to claim the set.
Goldstein paced the offense with nine kills and 16 digs, while Adler notched seven kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Evans tallied six more kills, four blocks and two aces.
Gromen recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs en route to being named to the all-tournament team. Cerruti scored on five kills and four blocks (two solo and two assists). Gerulskis picked up three kills in the loss.
Gawinski-Stern dug out 16 attempts, while Wierda had nine digs.
The Bombers head to Stevens next weekend for the Empire 8 Conference Championships on Nov. 7 and 8. Ithaca plays Nazareth in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m., and if victorious, will play in the title match at 12 p.m. on the 8th.
