ITHACA, N.Y. – In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the 24th-ranked Ithaca College women's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games after handing No. 17 Misericordia a 2-1 loss on Wednesday at a rain-soaked Carp Wood Field.
The win moves Ithaca to 11-3-2 overall while the Cougars, who had only lost two games all season prior to Tuesday, saw their nine-game unbeaten streak come to end moving their season mark to 14-3-1.
The Bombers took the lead for good in the 16th minute when
Sarah Woychick scored her fourth goal of the season on a feed from
Megan Nash to give Ithaca a 1-0 advantage.
Ithaca would add to its lead in the 70th minute after a
Taylor Baranowsky pass was chased down by
Jocelyn Ravesi who launched the ball into the far left corner of the goal to make it 2-0 in Ithaca's favor.
The Cougars would make things interesting in the 85th minute with a breakaway goal to make it 2-1, but that was as close as the visitors would get as
Beth Coppolecchia and the Bombers' defense shutdown any attempt at a comeback.
Coppoelcchia was credited with her 11th win of the season and 45th of her career after making 10 saves.
Ithaca will close out its regular season at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Utica in an Empire 8 pairing at Carp Wood Field. The Bombers, who will be celebrating senior day prior to kickoff, can clinch the top overall seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championship should they win and Stevens Institute of Technology lose its game.
