ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team secured its sixth win of the season and first against a non-conference opponent on Wednesday as the Bombers handed Rochester Institute of Technology a 1-0 loss at R.I.T. Turf Field despite being outshot in the match.
With the win, Ithaca improves to 6-7-2 overall while the Tigers dip to 7-9-0 on the season.
The game's lone goal came just 39 seconds after the first whistle when
Justin Pintak found a cutting
Blair Carney whose shot found its way into the back of the net to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead.
R.I.T. would take eight shots throughout the course of the game, but could not break through Ithaca's defensive front as the Bombers held on for the one goal win.
Dan Hinckley was called upon in goal for the Bombers and held the Tigers scoreless after making one save in all. Hinckley, who made his first-career start in the win, was credited with the shutout.
The Bombers will conclude the regular season at 12 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Alfred to face the Saxons in a pivotal Empire 8 matchup. Should the Bombers win, they will clinch the top overall seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championship and will host the four-team tournament at Carp Wood Field the following weekend.
