ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team took a season-high 32 shots and had three different players notch a goal as the Bombers rolled to a 3-0 win over Nazareth College on Saturday in an Empire 8 pairing at Golden Flyer Stadium.
With the win, Ithaca remains atop the conference standings with a 4-1-0 record while Nazareth falls to 0-4-1 in Empire 8 play.
Ithaca scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in just the first minute of play when
Sean Forward found a cutting
Brandon Thompson who netted his sixth goal of the season to put the Bombers up, 1-0.
Ellis Masterman would make it a two-goal advantage for the visitors in the 35th minute after beating the Nazareth keeper for his first goal of the season.
Joseph Dobbins and
Jordan Filipowich were each credited with an assist on the play.
Coming out of intermission, Ithaca kept its foot on the gas, scoring again in the 56th minute as Filipowich teamed up with Dobbins to put Ithaca up for good, 3-0.
Zach Jacobsen, who was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the week, earned his fourth win and third shutout of the season after making one save in net.
As a team, the Bombers put 14 shots on goal and limited the Golden Flyers to just eight shots all game.
Ithaca (4-7-1) will play again at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Skidmore in a non-conference matchup in Saratoga Springs.
