WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Ithaca College volleyball team fell to host Wellesley College in five sets on Friday evening after leading the match by a 2-0 score. Ithaca is now 20-3 on the season and will wrap up the weekend at the Wellesley Invitational with a pair of matches tomorrow against Southern Maine and Babson.
Ithaca won the first two sets, 25-20 and 28-26, but the Blue came back to claim the match with wins of 25-21, 25-21 and 15-8 in the final three games of the showdown. The Bombers hit .407 in the first set, but regressed throughout the match from .218 to -.043. On the other side, Wellesley began the evening on a .034 clip, and then hit over .368 in two of the final three sets.
Sophomore
Joelle Goldstein led Ithaca with 15 kills on 42 attempts to go along with 13 digs and three block assists. Freshman
Katie Evans notched 13 kills on a team-high .308 hitting percentage with five block assists and one solo block.
Sophomore
Caroline Gerulskis put down 10 kills in 24 swings, while classmate
Kayla Gromen tallied a double-double with 43 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Freshman
Kyle Dandrea contributed 10 digs, six kills and two aces.
Junior
Breanne Tuohy swung at a .364 rate with four kills on 11 tries, while freshman
Amanda Cerruti added three kills in two sets played. Senior
Dylan Gawinski-Stern chipped in 18 digs with three assists, while sophomore
Marlee Wierda added six digs.
Ithaca starts tomorrow against Southern Maine at 12 p.m. and finishes the afternoon against Babson at 2 p.m.
