Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches

MAHWAH, N.J. -- The Ithaca College volleyball split two matches Saturday at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational to finish the weekend event with two wins and a loss. Ithaca improved its overall record to 7-3 through 10 matches on the year. In Saturday's opening match, Ramapo defeated Ithaca in four sets, 27-29, 25-9, 25-10, 25-18. The Bombers rebounded with a three-set win over St. Joseph's of Long Island, 26-24, 25-15, 25-19. Ithaca hosts an Empire 8 dual match Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Elmira at Ben Light Gymnasium.
 
Ramapo 3, Ithaca 1 -- 27-29, 25-9, 25-20, 25-18
 
Ithaca led for most of the first set, and held its largest advantage of four points with a 13-9 lead after a kill by Caroline Gerulskis. It remained close throughout, and Ramapo had a set point at 25-24 but Ithaca tied it. The Bombers closed the set with back-to-back kills by Rylie Bean to win it. Ramapo won the final three sets.
 
Dylan Gawinski Stern led Ithaca with 11 kills and Joelle Goldstein added 10 kills against Ramapo. Carly Garone had 22 assists. Molly Brown added 12 assists.
 
Kayla Gromen had 27 digs for Ithaca and Gawinski Stern had 14 digs. Ithaca totaled five blocks, one of those was a solo block for Bean. Gerulskis and Gawinski Stern had two block assists each.
 
Ithaca 3, St. Joseph's (LI) 0 -- 26-24, 25-15, 25-19
 
In the first set against St. Joseph's, Ithaca jumped out to a 15-5 lead and held on for the 26-24 win. The Bombers never trailed in the second set, which Ithaca won 25-15. St. Joseph's started the third set with a 4-0 lead, but Ithaca scored the next nine points. It was close through the middle of the third set, and St. Joseph's eventually built a 19-15 lead. Ithaca scored the final 10 points of the set and won the match.
 
Goldstein led Ithaca with 11 kills on 39 attempts and hit .231 in the match. Gerulskis had six kills, and Kayla Gromen had 18 assists. Ithaca totaled 64 digs, and four players had double-digits in that category as Marlee Wierda had 13, Gromen had 12 and Hannah Robison and Gawinski Stern had 11. Katie Hartman had two solo blocks for Ithaca.
