Second-Half Outburst Leads Women's Basketball To 62-48 Win At Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit and defeated Elmira College 62-48 on Tuesday at Elmira's Speidel Gymnasium. It was Ithaca's fifth consecutive road win in conference play, and the Bombers moved into sole possession of first place in the Empire 8 with an 8-1 conference record. The Bombers are 15-4 overall.

Ithaca outscored the host Soaring Eagles 38-22 in the second half of the game on a strong defensive effort during which Elmira managed just six successful field-goal attempts over the final 20 minutes. The Bombers also held a 20-9 advantage in rebounds in the second half of the game. Ithaca's 48 points allowed matched its second-best defensive effort of the year.

Geena Brady scored 12 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 18 points in the contest. Brady's 18 points was a season high and she has 40 points over Ithaca's last three games, averaging 13.3 points and 5.0 rebounds over that stretch.

In a back-and-forth first half, the largest lead by either side was a three-point lead for Elmira. Ithaca trailed 26-24 at halftime. The Bombers opened the second half with a 23-3 run over the first 10 minutes of play to build an 18-point lead, and maintained a comfortable double-digit advantage down the stretch.

Kathryn Campbell scored 12 points and Mary Kate Tierney had 11 points, eight of which came in the second half. Tierney led Ithaca with 11 rebounds and eight assists. Samantha Klie had three steals for the Bombers.

Ithaca returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Houghton at 8 p.m.
