ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team (9-4, 2-1 Empire 8) scored a season-high 91 points to defeat visiting Alfred (5-5, 0-2 Empire 8), 91-48, Friday night at Ben Light Gymnasium.
Alfred held Ithaca to a two-possession lead throughout the first quarter of action. It was an
Ally Mnich layup at 10:24 that tipped off a 16-2 run that secured the Bombers a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. The Saxons were held to just four points during the last 10 minutes of the first half. Ithaca led 46-23 at intermission and steadily pulled ahead throughout the second half. It's the first the Bombers have scored more than 80 points since a 92-55 victory against Stevens on Jan. 25, 2013.
Senior
Jenn Escobido drained a season-high 17 points to lead the game. Mnich matched a career-high with 15 in 17 minutes of play and senior
Kathryn Campbell chipped in 12. Thirteen of the 14 Bombers that played tallied points against the Saxons. Thirty-three of Ithaca's 45 second-half points came from the bench.
Freshman
Ali Ricchiuti grabbed a season-high seven rebounds to join Campbell with game-best performances on the boards. Junior
Francesca Cotrupe and sophomore
Kristen Gowdy pulled down six each, a career-high for Gowdy. Campbell dished out six assists.
Ithaca more than doubled the Saxons' rebounding total, 49-24, and had 17 steals on the night. The Bombers shot better than 50 percent, 51.4, while the Saxons converted 34.0 percent.
The Bombers return to action Saturday, Jan. 11. They travel to Utica for a 4 p.m. conference game.
