ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College softball team split a doubleheader against visiting Elmira on Sunday afternoon at Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers won the first game 4-0, and dropped the second game 4-3 in 12 innings. Following the games, Ithaca's five seniors --
Jennifer Biondi,
Carianne D'Alessandro,
Lindsey Johnson,
Molly O'Donnell and
Adrienne Walters were honored.
These were the final two games of the Empire 8 regular-season schedule. With the second-game victory, Elmira finished second in the conference standings with an 8-4 record. The Bombers finished 7-5 in conference play, tied for fourth place in the standings with Alfred, but Alfred was awarded the final spot in the conference tournament due to tiebreak procedures. Ithaca is 19-11 on the year, while Elmira is 18-8. The Bombers return to action Thursday at Cornell at 3:30 p.m.

Sydney Folk and
Julianne Vincent each homered to support starting pitcher
Sam Bender who earned the complete-game shutout victory. Bender allowed seven hits and didn't walk a batter to improve to 9-2 on the year. She had four strikeouts. Folk was 2-for-3 in the game, and
Rachel Dell'Orto also went 2-for-3. Neither team committed an error.

A pitchers' duel between Elmira starter Alex Puglisi (13-5) and Ithaca freshman
Allison Macari (7-7) kept both teams scoreless through the first eight innings. The Soaring Eagles scored once in the top of the inning and Ithaca answered with a two-out single by
Rachel Dell'Orto to score
Brooke Powers from second base.
The international tiebreak was put in play in the 10th inning, and the Soaring Eagles took another lead with two runs in the top of the 11th. Ithaca answered in the bottom of the inning as Powers doubled to bring home
Francesca Busa and
Julianne Vincent doubled on a line drive off of the left-field fence to score Powers. Elmira scored the decisive run in the 12th and retired the Bombers in the bottom of the inning to get the win.
Dell'Orto was 4-for-5 in the game and Powers had two hits. Macari pitched all 12 innings, and none of the four runs she allowed were earned. Macari had two strikeouts and two walks.
