Ithaca Starts End-Of-Season Homestand With 57-43 Win Over Houghton

Box Score

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's basketball team (21-2) scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed in a 57-43 home victory over Houghton (10-14) at Ben Light Gymnasium. Houghton is a provisional member of the Empire 8 conference for the 2012-13 season and is playing a full conference schedule, but games between the Highlanders and Empire 8 members do not count toward the conference standings.

Kathryn Campbell scored six of her team-high 14 points in the first six minutes of play as Ithaca established a comfortable early lead. Ithaca's lead grew to as many as 19 points in the first half, but Houghton cut the deficit to just 10 points with a 9-0 lead over the final four minutes of the first half.

A similar trend took place in the second half, as Ithaca built a 20-point lead five minutes into the half on a jumper by Catherine Lewis, but Houghton whittled the margin down to six. The Bombers closed the game on a 14-6 run to account for the final score.

Geena Brady had eight points to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds for the Bombers. Mary Kate Tierney scored 11 points and had five rebounds and three assists. Campbell pulled down five rebounds and made five steals.

The Bombers extended their win streak to eight games, and continue a homestand to wrap up the regular season this weekend. The Bombers host Utica at 6 p.m. Friday and Nazareth on Saturday at 2 p.m.
