Bombers Stun William Smith in Second Stint, Win Seventh Straight, 69-38

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team (12-1) stunned visiting William Smith (8-5) 69-38 to win its seventh straight contest in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium.

Holding the Herons to just 11 second-half points, the Bombers pulled away from their 31-27 halftime edge with an 18-2 run to open the latter frame. Ithaca won its fifth straight game against William Smith and its ninth of the last 12.

Four Bombers reached double-digit points with sophomore Geena Brady scoring a game-high 11. Senior Devin Shea, junior Jenn Escobido and sophomore Ally Mnich each tallied 10 and junior Kathryn Campbell added nine. Campbell and Brady each grabbed a game-high nine boards to give Ithaca a 41-35 advantage in the category. Campbell and sophomore Samantha Klie each dished out four assists and Escobido and Brady made three steals apiece.

The Bombers, who hit 45.3 percent of their shots to the Herons' 28.3 percent, made just 13 turnovers. William Smith committed 24.

The first half featured nine lead changes. After bouncing back-and-forth in the opening minutes, the Bombers posted a seven-point lead, 23-16, at 6:50. The Herons used a jumper and back-to-back three-pointers to take a one-point edge at 2:24. William Smith secured a two-point gap at 1:14, but six consecutive Bomber points closed out the half in Ithaca's favor, 31-27.

William Smith shot a cold 5-for-26, 19.2 percent, in the second. Ithaca opened the second with an 18-2 run and closed the game with 12 unanswered. The Herons did not score during the final 7:38 of action.

The Bombers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Elmira.
