Ithaca Softball Splits Games at Oneonta

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Ithaca softball team (16-11) extended its winning streak to nine games with a 7-4 victory over Oneonta in the first game of a doubleheader, and dropped the second game 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at Red Dragon Softball Field. The Bombers travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader at King's.

The Bombers scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a lead, and Ithaca never trailed the rest of the way. Freshman shortstop Francesca Busa singled in junior outfielder Adrienne Walters with Ithaca's first run, and Ithaca added three more with two outs in the inning on an RBI single from junior designated player Jennifer Biondi and a two-run triple by sophomore second baseman Julianne Vincent. In the top of the fifth, Ithaca started the inning with three consecutive hits and an RBI walk by Biondi and junior catcher Lindsey Johnson delivered an RBI single to right field. The Bombers added another run in the sixth when junior third baseman Molly O'Donnell singled in sophomore outfielder Rachel Dell'Orto, after Dell'Orto started the inning with a double.

Busa, O'Donnell, Folk, Vincent and Walters all had two hits in the game, as the Bombers had 14 hits. Sophomore pitcher Sam Bender worked five innings and picked up her seventh victory of the season. She allowed four runs, three earned, with two strikeouts. Sophomore Jillian Olmstead wrapped up the game, allowing no runs and no hits in the final inning to earn her fourth save of the season.

The Red Dragons scored all seven of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the second game of the doubleheader. Ithaca tallied just five hits, led by two from junior first baseman Carianne D'Alessandro including a double. Bender started and pitched into the sixth inning. Olmstead finished the game in the pitcher's circle.
