ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's basketball team (5-0, 1-0 Empire 8) remained undefeated on the season with a 66-46 win over Elmira (3-4, 0-1 Empire 8) in the Empire 8 opener for both teams Tuesday night at Ben Light Gymnasium. It was Ithaca's first home game of the year and the third time this season that the Bombers have won by 20 points or more.
Three Bombers scored in double figures, led by
Kathryn Campbell with 12 points, 11 of which came in the first half.
Ally Mnich added 11 points and
Devin Shea scored 10 points. Ithaca closed the first half by outscoring the Soaring Eagles 25-6 over the final 13 minutes of the half to build a 32-12 lead at halftime and seized control of the game.
Ithaca had 11 steals in the game, including three each by Campbell,
Samantha Klie and Mnich. The Bombers' leading rebounder was
Mary Kate Tierney, with 10 boards. Ithaca held a 48-31 advantage in rebounding and the Bombers shot 45 percent from the field while Elmira converted just 25.4 percent of its field-goal attempts.
The Bombers return to action Saturday at Baruch in a 1 p.m. start.
