ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Ithaca football team (4-1, 2-1 Empire 8) suffered its first defeat of the season, 31-7 at Alfred (3-1, 2-0 Empire 8) Saturday at Merrill Field. Ithaca's lone touchdown came in the second quarter.
Ithaca quarterback
Phil Neumann completed 16 passes to eight different receivers for a total of 139 yards. That included a 2-yard touchdown pass to fullback Mike Moon in the second quarter that drew the Bombers to within 21-7.
The Bombers took advantage of three Alfred turnovers during the game, including the recovery of two fumbled punts and an interception in the first quarter by safety
Josh Liemer. It was the ninth interception of Liemer's career.
Ithaca's leading rusher was
Clay Ardoin, who had 11 carries for 32 yards.
Joel Lynch was the Bombers' leading receiver with three catches for 47 yards.
Ithaca's defense was paced by
Chris Williams with 12 tackles.
Tom Scanlon and
Skyler Schlenker had 10 tackles each. Scanlon also had two pass break-ups.
The Bombers return home to Butterfield Stadium next weekend for a Saturday 1 p.m. homecoming game against Buffalo State.
