ITHACA, N.Y. -– The Ithaca College men's soccer team (7-3-4, 3-1-1 Empire 8) earned its third Empire 8 win of the season in a physical game against visiting Nazareth (6-8-0, 1-5-0 Empire 8) 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. With the win, Ithaca clinches a berth in the Empire 8 tournament for the second-straight season.
Ithaca put up two goals in the first half and held on to the lead in the second half. Ithaca goalkeeper
Kenny Chapman recorded his third shutout of the year with two saves. Both teams had 13 shots, including a 9-4 Ithaca advantage in the second half, and Ithaca held the lead 11-9 in corner kicks.
The first goal came in the 13th minute off the foot of sophomore
Tim Goldman, sailing a shot over Nazareth goalkeeper off a cross by
A.J. Wolfanger. It's Goldman's third goal of the season and Wolfanger's first assist. Goldman now leads the team with nine points.
The second goal came in the 44th minute off a free kick outside of the penalty area, when freshman
Jordan Filipowich scored the first goal of his Bombers career off a rebound careening off a Nazareth player in open space in front of the net.
Ithaca returns to action in a non-conference matchup against Rochester Institute of Technology at Carp Wood Field on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
