Regionally-Ranked Hobart Defeats Ithaca Men's Soccer

GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca men's soccer team (4-2-4) saw its eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end in a 2-1 loss at Hobart (7-2-0) Tuesday afternoon at Cozzens Field in Geneva. The Statesmen are ranked fifth in the latest East Region rankings by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Hobart opened the scoring in the 19th minute off of a corner kick. The Bombers then made a push to tie the score, and forced two diving saves from the Hobart goalkeeper in the 33rd minute of the game.

The Statesmen added an insurance goal six minutes from time, but Ithaca pulled one back as Zach Hutchinson scored on an a deflected shot. Ryan Norland earned an assist on that goal. Hutchinson has scored a goal in each of Ithaca's last two games.

Goalkeeper Jordan Gentile got the start in net and made two saves.

The Bombers held a 15-10 advantage in shots and forced eight saves from the Hobart keeper.

Ithaca returns to Empire 8 play Saturday at noon at Elmira. The Bombers are 2-0-1 in the conference, while Elmira is 2-1-0 in the Empire 8 and 9-1-0 overall.
