ITHACA, N.Y. --
Jack Mrozinski, who has served on the coaching staffs at Buffalo State, Muhlenberg and Hofstra, has been hired as Ithaca's defensive backs coach.
Mrozinski replaces
Peter Mayer, who spent three years as a full-time coach at his alma mater.
Mrozinski most recently spent a season as special teams coordinator and safeties coach at Widener. He served as assistant recruiting coordinator and head of the Pride's walk-on program.
Mrozinski helped all of Widener's special teams units record top-four statistical finishes in the Middle Atlantic Conference and coached an all-American kick returner.
"I am pleased to welcome
Jack Mrozinski to the Bomber football family," said
Ken Kutler, Ithaca's director of intercollegiate athletics and recreational sports. “
Jack brings a wealth of experience from Buffalo State, Muhlenberg, Hofstra and most recently Widener. In addition to a solid recruiting background, Jack's work on both sides of the ball will add a great deal to our program."
Before moving to Widener,
Mrozinski spent a season at Division I-AA Hofstra (the Pride dropped its football program following the 2009 season), where he worked with the team's defensive backs.
Mrozinski's coaching background also includes time at Muhlenberg (where he worked under Ithaca graduate and former Bomber assistant Mike Donnelly) and his alma mater, Buffalo State. In two years at Muhlenberg, where he worked with the safeties and served as the video coordinator for the defense, he helped the Mules reach the NCAA playoffs both seasons. Muhlenberg's safeties earned three all-league honors as Muhlenberg won consecutive Centennial Conference titles.
At Buffalo State he played quarterback and long snapper.
Mrozinski won the program's Al Abgott award (given to the unselfish, unsung player who never misses a responsibility to the team) and the Coaches Award (given to the player who eximplifies and demonstrates special character). He earned a bachelor's degree in communications in 2006.
The Bombers open their season Sept. 3, hosting Brockport; their stretch of 40 straight winning seasons is the second-longest streak at any level of college football and makes them one of only seven teams to ever record 40 winning seasons in a row over the 140 years college football has been played.
