ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca softball team (21-9) dropped a pair of close games to cross-town Division I opponent Cornell (24-18-1) Wednesday afternoon at Kostrinsky Field. Cornell won the first game 5-2 and the second game 6-3 in eight innings. The Bombers were originally scheduled to travel to Cornell's field, but the doubleheader was played on Ithaca's campus, and the Bombers batted in the top of the innings as the visiting team.

The Bombers held a 2-1 lead for the majority of the contest and carried that lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Big Red tied the score after getting the first two runners on base.

The international tiebreak rule was in place for the eighth inning and Ithaca scored the go-ahead run. With Biondi placed on second base, Dolan reached first on a bunt single to start the inning. Dolan the attempted a steal of second and forced a rundown, which allowed Biondi to score from third with the go-ahead run.

Cornell rallied to score the decisive runs in the bottom of the eighth, as the tying-run scored with two outs on a wild pitch, and the next batter hit a three-run home run off of the left-field foul marker that was tracking foul, but was wind-blown back toward fair territory.

Lillie was 2-for-4 in the game and Dell'Orto lined a double. Freshman Jillian Olmstead (Caesar Rodney/Magnolia, Del.) pitched the complete game and allowed just one earned run with six strikeouts.
