Ithaca Softball Sweeps Visiting Nazareth

ITHACA, N.Y. - The #27 Ithaca softball team (18-6, 6-2 Empire 8) defeated Nazareth (2-19, 0-6 Empire 8) twice Sunday afternoon at Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers won the first game 12-0 in five innings and the second game 9-1 in six innings. Ithaca has never lost to Nazareth in 11 all-time meetings and has outscored the Golden Flyers by a margin of 106-7 in those games. The Bombers return to action Wednesday at Rensselaer.

Senior pitcher Allison Greaney (John F. Kennedy/Iselin, N.J.) pitched her fourth shutout of the season and improved to 6-2 on the year. She allowed five hits and struck out three. Four Bombers had two hits in the game and Ithaca took advantage of five Nazareth errors to score 12 runs. Senior Kait Dolan (Victor/Farmington) was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Junior Annmarie Forenza (Hunterdon Central/Whitehouse Station, N.J.) was 2-for-3 and scored three times.

The Bombers scored the decisive runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and completed the doubleheader sweep. Ithaca slugged two homers in the game, a solo shot by sophomore Jennifer Biondi (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) and a two-run blast by freshman Jackie Branco (West Essex/Roseland, N.J.). Freshman Julianne Vincent (Westhill/Stamford, Conn.) was 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Senior Britt Lillie (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Mendon) pitched the victory and allowed just five hits. She struck out seven Nazareth hitters. Lillie also had a hit and two RBIs.
