ITHACA, N.Y. -- The women's basketball team (7-1) rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to beat the visiting Baruch Bearcats (4-3) 64-59 Saturday at Ben Light Gymnasium.
Baruch outscored the Bombers 20-4 to close the first half and take a 36-23 advantage into intermission. The Bearcats still held a 12-point lead (50-38) with 11:30 to go before Ithaca started its comeback. Sophomore forward
Jenn Escobido (Norwich Free Academy/Lisbon, Conn.) scored six points during an 11-1 run that cut Baruch's lead to two points with 5:22 left. The Bearcats missed nine shots from the floor and turned the ball over twice in that stretch.
A 6-2 run that expanded the visitors' lead to four was followed by a three-point play by Escobido and a pair of free throws by junior center
Devin Shea (St. Basil Academy/Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) that put the Bombers up for good with 1:07 remaining.
Escobido and
Shea both recorded double-doubles;
Shea (who picked up her fourth career double-double) led the Bombers with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked a pair of shots, giving her 51 in her career – moving her into a tie for ninth on the program's all-time list.
Escobido's 15 points and 10 rebounds gave her the third double-double of her career. Sophomore guard
Kathryn Campbell (Wall/Wall, N.J.) added nine points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Elizabeth Conti (Algonquin Regional/Southborough, Mass.) matched a career high with seven rebounds and senior guard
Jacqueline Shinall (Joel Barlow/Redding Ridge, Conn.) added eight points, four assists and a team-best three steals.
The Bombers travel to Holland, Mich., next weekend for Hope's Post-Exam Jam. Ithaca opens against Robert Morris (Ill.) Friday and will face either Finlandia or the #22 host Flying Dutch Saturday.
