Late Goals Down Ithaca Men's Soccer

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca men's soccer team (4-9-1, 3-3-0 Empire 8) and Elmira (12-2-1, 3-2-1 Empire 8) played 83 minutes of scoreless soccer before combining for three goals in the final seven minutes of a 2-1 Soaring Eagles victory Saturday evening at Higgins Stadium in Ithaca. The Bombers finished fourth in the Empire 8 during the regular season, and will play a conference tournament semifinal game Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Bomber freshman midfielder Tim Goldman (Manlius-Pebble Hill/Fayetteville) netted a goal to put the Bombers up 1-0. Freshman midfielder Adam Tamburello (Commack/Commack) crossed the ball into the center of the penalty area, and Goldman placed the ball inside the left post for his third goal of the season.

Moments later, the Soaring Eagles tied the game on a penalty kick, before scoring the game winning goal in the 88th minute.

Ithaca freshman goalkeeper Jordan Gentile (Manlius-Pebble Hill/Syracuse) made three stops for the Bombers.

The Bombers outshot Elmira 21-11 and held a 14-3 shot advantage at halftime.

Prior to the game, the Bombers recognized a three-member senior class that includes Matt Anthony (Pine Bush/Middletown), Evan Kirshner (Haverford/Haverford) and Jon Sylvetsky (Niskayuna/Niskayuna).
