Late Rally Lists Bombers Over Fisher

Rochester, N.Y.--The women's lacrosse team (3-3, 2-0 Empire 8) scored three goals in the final four minutes of play to edge St. John Fisher (1-6, 1-1 Empire 8) 14-13 on Saturday. Freshman Michelle Avery (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) scored the game-winner with just six seconds left in the game.

Avery's score, her sixth of the season, game after she picked up a ground ball following a missed shot. Avery scored tow goals in the contest, with her first came early in the first half.

Down by two with less than four minutes to play, freshman Michelle Avery (East Meadow/East Meadow) netted a goal to pull the score to 13-12. Less than a minute later, senior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) tied the score on her fourth goal of the game.

McClure led the Bombers in scoring. Rivas ranked second with three goals. Avery and juniors Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) each recorded two goals. Sophomore Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) picked up a pair of assists.

In goal, senior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) picked up the win. She played the final 10 minutes and allowed just one goal. She made three saves. Freshman Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) drew the start and recorded nine saves.

The Bombers were down 8-5 at halftime and twice trailed by four goals before their late rally.

Ithaca will host Utica Wednesday in the home opener.
