Eighth Straight Win for Women's Swimming

Shannon Archer won the 1,000 free

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (12-1) swam its current winning streak to eight consecutive dual meets and nine overall competitive events with a 158-81 win on Senior Day at the Hill Center Pool.

Senior Shannon Archer (Niskayuna/Scotia) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:05.39 and senior diver Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) won both the 1-meter (235.55 points) and 3-meter (246.65) diving events. Ithaca's four other seniors were also honored prior to the start of the meet. They included Carolyn Dartt (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), Christie Fries (Immaculata/Ringoes, N.J.), Jen Heberton (Darien/Darien, Conn.) and Laura Kucsan (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bridgewater, N.J.).

Freshman Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.78 and was on the winning 400-yard medley relay team with freshman Liz Clements (Hanover Area/Hanover Township, Pa.), junior Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) and junior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden). Blazak also won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:53.77 and Rhoades won the 50 free in 24.19 seconds.

Sophomore Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.62. Other individual event winners for Ithaca were sophomore Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) in the 500 free in 5:20.97 and freshman Madi Sherry (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.10.

Ithaca returns to action in two weeks at the New York State and Empire 8 championship meets, held in Syracuse at Nottingham High School.
