Alfred, N.Y. – The women's basketball team (16-4, 11-0 Empire 8) stretched its winning streak to 11 games, routing host Alfred (9-11, 3-8 Empire 8) 74-41 Friday. Ithaca held the Saxons to 19 percent shooting in the first half, raising their all-time record against Alfred to 42-4.
With the win, the Bombers – who are ranked first in the NCAA's initial East Region rankings – extended their lead in the Empire 8 standings to 2.5 games over Utica (8-2 Empire 8), who lost at Stevens Friday.
Senior guard Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) scored 12 points to pace 12 Bombers in the scoring column. Senior guard Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) added eight points, raising her career total to 1,217 – passing Margo McGowan (1,200 points from 1994 to 1998) for sixth on the program's all-time list. Sophomore guard Riley Dunn (Central Catholic/Bradford, Mass.) added nine points.
Bixby led Ithaca with six rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Blaire Moldenhauer (Albany R III/Albany, Mo.) paced the Bombers with three assists.
Ithaca forced the Saxons to miss 21 of their 26 first-half shots and Alfred shot just 27.3 percent for the game (12 of 44). The Bombers blocked seven shots and collected 12 steals while harassing the home team into 23 turnovers.
The Bombers play a 2 p.m. game at Nazareth Saturday.
