Men's Soccer Posts 1-0 Win Over RIT

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (4-7-4, 2-4-0 Empire 8) celebrated its senior class and earned a 1-0 win Saturday over the Rochester Institute of Technology (8-5-3, 2-2-2 Empire 8) at Carp Wood Field.

The Bombers scored the game's only goal in the first half, a headed goal by senior midfielder Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.) on a cross from the right wing by sophomore back Gabriel Saint Malo (American Heritage/Miami, Fla.) in the 13th minute.

Ithaca preserved the shutout the rest of the way and held RIT to just nine shots in the game. The Bombers also had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Justin Parlapiano (Stafford/Stafford Springs, Conn.) made four saves and picked up his second shutout of the season and his seventh in the last two years at Ithaca.

The Bombers honored a five-member senior class that included midfielder Matt Baluzy (FDR/Salt Point), midfielder Bill Barrowman (Bethlehem Central/Glenmont), Geyer, Parlapiano and forward Mike Shirley (Hand/Madison, Conn.).

Ithaca kept its Empire 8 playoff hopes alive with the victory and will wrap up its regular season Saturday at Elmira.
