ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's soccer team (4-7-4, 2-4-0 Empire 8) celebrated its senior class and earned a 1-0 win Saturday over the Rochester Institute of Technology (8-5-3, 2-2-2 Empire 8) at Carp Wood Field.
The Bombers scored the game's only goal in the first half, a headed goal by senior midfielder
Jeff Geyer (Rham/Hebron, Conn.) on a cross from the right wing by sophomore back
Gabriel Saint Malo (American Heritage/Miami, Fla.) in the 13th minute.
Ithaca preserved the shutout the rest of the way and held RIT to just nine shots in the game. The Bombers also had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper
Justin Parlapiano (Stafford/Stafford Springs, Conn.) made four saves and picked up his second shutout of the season and his seventh in the last two years at Ithaca.
The Bombers honored a five-member senior class that included midfielder
Matt Baluzy (FDR/Salt Point), midfielder
Bill Barrowman (Bethlehem Central/Glenmont),
Geyer,
Parlapiano and forward
Mike Shirley (Hand/Madison, Conn.).
Ithaca kept its Empire 8 playoff hopes alive with the victory and will wrap up its regular season Saturday at Elmira.
